The content filtering utilizes both dynamic analysis technologies, in which the software analyzes and attempts to understand the content (in conjunction with word lists) that is retrieved "in context" and filters it based on user Internet policies; and, in the latest release, URL black and white lists for the automatic rejection or allowance of specified Web sites. The filtering component of ContentWatch is a client-deployed platform, in that the software is not server-resident but instead is deployed directly to the individual end user Windows 2000 or XP machines.
