Jedi are not allowed spouses, so they wed quietly--R2-D2 and C-3PO are the only witnesses--and in III she becomes pregnant. PALPATINE As Senator Palpatine (I) rises to Chancellor of the Republic (II) and then Emperor (III), he singles out Anakin, befriending him and goading his ambition.
